Junior IV & V Alpine
JV - Ages 8-10
JIV - Ages 11-12
The JIV-V program is designed for skiers who have little or no racing experience, but also provides more focused race training for experienced athletes who ready for more advanced training and competition.
Format

The program emphasizes dynamic parallel carving, basic racing techniques, and having fun!

  • Weekend morning practice sessions typically consist of obstacle and training courses tailored to the needs of this age group.
  • Weekend afternoon sessions consist of on-snow drills, and directed and all-mountain free skiing that targets balance, dynamic movements, parallel carving, and skier confidence.
  • Weeknight gate training is also offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for an additional one-time fee.
  • For practice dates, times, and other logistics, check out the Practice Information page.
  • The program provides age and ability appropriate opportunities to compete locally and be introduced to the basics of USSA giant slalom and slalom racing.
  • Newer athletes generally enter one or two local races, and focus the majority of their time training. (See suggested races for new athletes - coming soon .)
  • However, experienced travel to races ski at different areas around Central PA to compete in a series of races with the goal of being selected for the PA JIV-V State Championships (i.e., Derbies).
  • Coaches support JIV-V athletes at all Central qualifier races, and those invited to the State Championships. (See the Race Schedule for details.)
  • Athletes are also encouraged to participate in some form of conditioning program in the off-season. Contact your coach for more information.
Goals:

Coaches and athletes work together to encourage participants to set skiing goals for each season that are challenging but achievable.

  • Enjoy skiing and being with other great skiers while improving their physical fitness.
