HOW TO REGISTER FOR PARA RACES

The step-by-step guide to getting your athlete on the start list

Look, we get it. The first time you try to register for a PARA race, it feels like you need a PhD in ski racing bureaucracy. USSS membership? AdminSkiRacing? PARA? Wait, what?

Take a breath. We're going to walk you through the whole thing. Once you've done it once, it's actually pretty straightforward. And after that? You'll be the parent helping the new families figure it out.

THE SHORT VERSION

Think of it like this:

  • USSS membership = your driver's license (proves you're eligible to race)

  • AdminSkiRacing = Ticketmaster (where you actually register for races)

The process:

  1. Make sure your athlete has a valid USSS membership (this also registers them with PARA)

  2. Create an account on AdminSkiRacing.com

  3. Add your athlete as a "participant" in your account

  4. Find the race you want on AdminSkiRacing and register

  5. Pay online

  6. Show up on time

That's it. Now here's the detailed version for when you inevitably forget something.

STEP 1: GET YOUR USSS MEMBERSHIP (DO THIS FIRST)

Before you can register for any PARA race—or even train with LMRT—your athlete must have a current USSS membership.

Why USSS?

PARA (Pennsylvania Alpine Racing Association) is part of the Eastern Region of USSS (U.S. Ski & Snowboard). When you register with USSS, you're automatically registered with PARA. One membership, both organizations.

How to Register:

  1. Go to my.usskiandsnowboard.org

  2. Create an account (if you don't have one)

  3. Register your athlete for an Alpine Competitor membership

  4. Pay the annual fee

  5. You'll receive a USSS number - save this, you'll need it

Important Notes:

  • USSS membership runs on a seasonal basis (typically July - June)

  • Athletes turning 18 during the season must complete SafeSport training

  • You only need to do this once per season

  • Be careful when it asks for your state to select PA rather than your home state (if you don’t live in PA). Selecting PA will allow you to select LMRT as your club.

Don't skip this step. No USSS membership = no training, no racing. Period.

STEP 2: CREATE YOUR ADMINSKIRACING ACCOUNT

AdminSkiRacing is the online registration platform used for almost all PARA races. Think of it like Ticketmaster, but for ski racing. And less terrible.

Set Up Your Account:

  1. Go to adminskiracing.com

  2. Click "Create an Account" (or "Register" or "Sign Up")

  3. Enter your information:

  4. Check your email for a verification link and confirm your account

    • If you don't verify, your account may get locked later

Pro Tip:

Use an email you actually check. AdminSkiRacing will send race confirmations, updates, and sometimes last-minute changes to this address.

STEP 3: ADD YOUR ATHLETE AS A PARTICIPANT

Once you're logged into AdminSkiRacing, you need to add your racer(s) as "Participants."

How to Add a Participant:

  1. Log in to your AdminSkiRacing account

  2. Go to your home page or "Participants" section

  3. Click "Add Participant"

  4. Enter your athlete's first and last name

    • AdminSkiRacing will search USSS's database and auto-fill their info

    • If you typed their name correctly and they have a USSS membership, their details will populate automatically

  5. Update the following:

    • Birth date (USSS only provides the year, you need to add month/day)

    • Address (makes waiver forms easier to complete)

    • Verify their USSS number is correct

Notes:

  • You can add multiple participants

  • Participants can be shared between accounts (helpful for divorced families, extended family, or coaches managing multiple racers)

  • FIS racers: If your athlete has a FIS license, that info will sync from USSS too

STEP 4: FIND AND REGISTER FOR RACES

Now comes the fun part—actually signing up for races.

Find Races:

  1. Log in to AdminSkiRacing

  2. Go to "All Events" or "Event Signup"

  3. Filter by:

    • Region: Pennsylvania Alpine Racing Association (PARA)

    • Age Group: Your athlete's age class (U12, U14, U16, etc.)

    • Date range

  4. Browse available races

Register for a Race:

  1. Click on the race you want

  2. Check eligibility requirements (age, USSS membership, etc.)

  3. Select your participant(s)

  4. Add to cart

  5. Complete any required waivers (usually auto-filled if you set up your participant correctly)

  6. Checkout and pay

Registration Deadlines:

  • Online registration deadlines vary by race (typically 1-2 days before race day—check the specific race details on AdminSkiRacing)

  • Late/on-site registration policies also vary—some races allow it with a late fee (often around $25), others don't allow it at all

  • Always check the race details on AdminSkiRacing for specific deadlines and policies

Pro Tips:

  • Register early - some races fill up

  • Check the race details on AdminSkiRacing for specific info (start times, trails, etc.)

  • If you're not sure if your athlete is eligible, contact the Race Administrator (RA) listed on the event page

STEP 5: SHOW UP AND RACE

You've registered. You're good to go.

What to expect on race day:

  • Arrive early (typically 7:00-7:30 AM)

  • Pick up your bib at registration

  • Get your lift ticket or use your season pass (many PARA races are at Epic resorts where your passes are valid)

  • Attend course inspection with your coach

  • Race!

  • Don't forget to return your bib (you'll get invoiced if you lose it)

COMMON QUESTIONS (A.K.A. "HELP, I MESSED UP")

"I forgot to register before the deadline. Can I still race?"

Maybe. Most races do not allow on-site or late registration. Check the race details on AdminSkiRacing or contact the Race Administrator (RA).

"My athlete's USSS membership expired. Can I still register?"

No. You must have a current, valid USSS membership to race. Renew immediately at my.usskiandsnowboard.org.

"I registered my athlete but they're sick/injured. Can I get a refund?"

Usually not. Most race fees are non-refundable. Check the race's specific refund policy on AdminSkiRacing.

"I don't see my athlete's name when I try to add them as a participant."

Check their USSS registration. If they're newly registered, it may take a day or two to sync. If it's been a while, double-check the spelling of their name or contact AdminSkiRacing support.

"What's the difference between USSS and PARA?"

USSS is the national organization. PARA is Pennsylvania's state division of USSS. Registering with USSS automatically registers you with PARA.

"Do I need to register for every race individually?"

Yes. Each race requires its own registration and payment through AdminSkiRacing.

"Can I register multiple athletes at once?"

Yes. Add all your athletes as participants, then select all of them when registering for a race.
