Mike Jacobson
U8 Future Stars | Swimming Coach Who Fell in Love with Skiing
Five years with LMRT. Thirty years in the pool. All of it matters.
Mike didn't start as a ski racer—he's a competitive swimmer who's been coaching in the pool for over 30 years. When his oldest kid joined LMRT, Mike became a ski instructor to keep up. Then LMRT president. Then he helped create the U8 Future Stars program and raised his hand to coach it.
Here's the thing about Mike: he knows how to teach fundamentals. Whether it's in the pool or on snow, the principles are the same—strong technique, fun exploratory exercises, meeting athletes where they are. And Mike's been perfecting them for three decades.
His coaching superpower? Teaching strong fundamentals while keeping it fun. His best ski day? Three feet of powder at Liberty after a blizzard. On chairlift rides, he teaches Future Stars about different music genres—because skiing fast matters, but so does knowing your classics.
When he's not on snow, Mike's working as an engineering manager, swimming, hiking, biking, or traveling. He's a morning person (rare among ski coaches), drinks soda instead of coffee, and dreams of skiing Chamonix.
What he wants athletes to know: "If you don't fall or crash in practice, you aren't pushing yourself. That means coaches will fall sometimes too. It's all part of becoming better."
Why he coaches: "I enjoy sharing my passion for skiing with others."
